Giro d’Italia with Pavarotti (9): Napoli

As Big Luciano and Odd Pavarotti have stayed behind the pedaling cyclist’s tracks for days, the Giro d’Italia has moved on thru parts of central and south of Italy. The Giro were at one time in the neighborhood of the great city of Naples in Campania, or as the locals say; Napoli!

But the Giro moved on, and today the stretch has been between the small town of Assisi in Perugia and the Montecatini Terme district in Tuscany, or Toscana, as the locals put it. Tomorrow the Giro is heading towards the Liguria region. Big Luciano and Odd Pavarotti will not fail and they will follow up this in the fabulous blog posts of tomorrow and the days ahead.

The Giro related videos of today are all in homage to the great city of Naples.

First, a video (audio only) of Pavarotti singing in honor of the great italian opera singer Enrico Caruso in a tribute concert at the Teatro di San Carlo (the Naples opera house) in Naples in 1973. The great Caruso were, as most of you will know, born in Naples in 1873, and one of Pavarotti’s favourite opera singers.

This is followed by a documentary about Naples with Pavarotti himself as your guide (divided into four videos). I believe that these clips are from the 1988 documentary which were shown on tv under the title of “Pavarotti Returns to Naples” (or just “Pavarotti in Naples”), but it has not yet occurred on any video format known to man.

The last video is Pavarotti singing the lovely song “Caruso” by the italian singer-songwriter (cantautore) (and one his best “Pavarotti & Friends friend”) Lucio Dalla who died earlier this year. The video is from The Three Tenors concert in Paris in 1998 (and as you know that concert is available on Decca CD and DVD!).

See you all on the roads of Bella Italia tomorrow! Big Luciano and Odd Pavarotti will be in Tuscany and Liguria on the 17th of May!

What a way to celebrate Norwegian Constitution Day!🙂
