After cycling in Perugia and Tuscany yesterday, the Giro d’Italia headed into the Liguria region today. The stretch of the day ended in the little town of Sestri Levante which is situated about halfway between the great city of Genoa (or as the italians say; Genova) and the regional town of La Spezia.
The first two videos of today mark the Giro’s way thru Tuscany: Pavarotti sings the wonderful aria “Ah si ben mio” followed by the fabulous aria “Di quella pira”, both from Verdi’s opera “Il Trovatore”. These two videos are from a performance in Florence (or as the italians say; Firenze) in 1991. If this doesn’t make you wanna scream of joy, nothing will! 🙂
The Giro has also a connection to Norway! Three Norwegians are pedaling around in Italy in this Giro: Thor Hushovd, Alexander Kristoff and Gabriel Rasch. Good luck to them! And today is the 17th of May, which is Norway’s national day, or Norwegian Constitution Day, so let’s start celebrating! 🙂
Odd Pavarotti is proud to present the second video which is a clip of Pavarotti in Oslo! The clip shows Big Luciano at the rehearsal for a concert he held in The Norwegian opera (in the old opera house, not in the now famous new opera house) in 1988. Pavarotti sings the aria “E lucevan le stelle” (excerpt) from Puccini’s opera Tosca. This is Pavarotti in his prime! A rare and wonderful clip!
Big Luciano and Odd Pavarotti wish you well and all the best on Norwegian Constitution Day! See you all on the roads of Bella Italia tomorrow!
