Herbert Breslin is dead

Pavarotti’s manager for 36 years, Herbert Breslin, is dead at 87. Breslin was Pavarotti’s manager thru out most of his career and instrumental to Big Luciano’s success worldwide.

Breslin saw the potential for Pavarotti in not only doing it big in the big opera houses, but also in concert halls and arenas all over the world. And as they say: “The rest is opera history”.

The Pavarotti-Breslin collaboration had its ups and downs. They were both strong-minded personalities, and in 2002 Breslin ended his collaboration with Pavarotti after 36 years.

In 2004 Breslin issued a book together with Anne Midgette about their relationship entitled “The King & I” (subtitle: “The Uncensored Tale of Luciano Pavarotti’s Rise to Fame by His Manager, Friend and Sometime Adversary”). The book is a good read and is still available, also as e-book.

In 1994 a tv documentary was made with the title “An Impresario in New York: Herbert E. Breslin”. The tv documentary was about Breslin and his job as a manager for several great artists, featuring among them Pavarotti himself. I belive this documentary was a French production. Anyway, it’s worth watching if it’s ever being broadcast again. It has not surfaced on video, but it should.

Ciao e grazie, Herbert!
