Luciano’s Friends: A very special Pavarotti tribute

On September 6th, 21012, there will be held a very special Pavarotti tribute concert, called “Luciano’s Friends”. This concert will be held in his birth town of Modena, Italy on the fifth anniversary of his death.

The venue for this concert is the Modena opera house, The Teatro Comunale di Modena (Community Theatre of Modena), which was renamed in October 2007 as Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti in honor of the great modenese.

This concert was announced in early July, so I guess all details aren’t quite clear yet and things may change, but it looks like this concert will be in the spirit of the famous Pavarotti & friends concerts of the 1990’s and early 2000’s. In fact, this concert also celebrates the 20th anniversary of the first Pavarotti & friends concert.

The singers that will be performing are a mix of opera and pop singers, established artist and new talents, and Italian and international stars. Among them performing will be the Spanish soprano Montserrat Caballé, and Italian pop stars Lorenzo Jovanotti and Zucchero, among others.

Many other names have been mentioned on various Italian web sites, but the names above are all mentioned on the official page of the concert at the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation as I write this.

Check this website for further details as they become available, including how to view this concert live (and hopefully for free) on the web. The website is in English and Italian.

To celebrate this good news, here are Pavarotti and some of his friends singing “Brindisi” from Verdi’s opera La Traviata at the second Pavarotti & Friends concert in 1994 in Modena. Pavarotti & Friends 2 was broadcasted on TV and issued on Decca CD and VHS, and later on DVD.
