Pavarotti sang many times at The Metropolitan Opera, or just The Met, in New York thru out his entire career. The Met was maybe the most important opera house in his career. Pavarotti didn’t only sing in opera productions, but he was also a frequent performer in the many concerts and galas at The Met.
Here is a swipe thru Pavarotti’s career at The Met with one performance from each decade of his five decade career. This video but audio sound only extravaganza starts with Pavarotti’s début in 1968 and ends with his last performance in 2004.
This is of course just a small sample of Pavarotti’s 378 performances at The Met. No one else has sung that many performances at The Metropolitan Opera.
Many of Pavarotti’s performances were broadcasted on radio and TV. Many of the TV broadcasts are available on Decca and Deutsche Grammophon DVD. Many more of the radio and TV broadcasts, and some in-house recordings as well, are issued on various unofficial labels.
Many of the Pavarotti performances that were broadcasted on TV are still not released officially, so let’s hope that Decca and Deutsche Grammophon will release these on DVD someday. Let’s hope it will not take forever! 🙂
