When discussing Verdi and Pavarotti we must talk about the CD called “Pavarotti Premieres” issued on the CBS Masterworks label (part of Sony).
Pavarotti’s official Verdi recordings are issued on the Decca and Deutsche Grammophon labels (part of Universal). However, this CD is an exception to the rule. Pavarotti in fact appears by the kind permission of Decca.
“Pavarotti Premieres” contains Pavarotti singing six rare Verdi arias in addition to two Verdi orchestral pieces.
Claudio Abbado conducts the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra from Milan. Well that’s the orchestra of La Scala, if you’re in doubt.
“Pavarotti Premieres” is a wonderful CD with wonderful singing by Pavarotti in quite unknown Verdi arias. It’s a must for all Pavarotti and Verdi fans!
My favorite aria is one particular aria from the opera I due Foscari called “Sì Lo Sento, Iddio Mi Chiama”. Pavarotti is over the top wonderful in this aria! Listen to the YouTube video (audio only) and be amazed!
And that’s my friends is how you celebrate Verdi and his 199th birthday!
