Is it Handel madness to search for the perfect Ombra mai fu?

Just a simple question for you people out there: Is it a sign of Handel madness to search for the perfect interpretation of Ombra mai fu? I think it is. And it’s that sort of madness I like.

Here are six different interpretations to choose from.

First three countertenors: David Daniels, Philippe Jaroussky and Jochen Kowalski. Then two tenors: Ian Bostridge and Rolando Villazón. We finish this Ombra mai fu extravaganza in style with the mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli.

And I’m so sorry folks, but Pavarotti didn’t sing Ombra mai fu!

What’s your favorite interpretation of this operatic masterpiece from the Handel opera Serse (Xerxes)?
